Our story starts in 1979, when the Hare Krishna Temple in London opened Govinda’s Restaurant; one of London’s first vegetarian restaurants. Back then, vegetarian restaurants were not so common. Our aim was to open a restaurant serving good value, plant-based food, served with love. If there is one thing the Hare Krishna movement is known for (apart from singing and dancing on Oxford Street!), it’s our delicious vegetarian food.
Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle that excludes the exploitation of and cruelty to animals. We believe a nourishing diet is not only life-enhancing, but can also protect us against a host of illnesses. Whether you’re a long-term vegetarian or vegan, or just looking to cut down on meat, you’ll feel right at home with us. We have something for everyone and what better place to satisfy your taste than Govinda’s.
We are all about nutritious vegetarian and vegan meals made daily, ensuring they are always delicious. Our food is ethically-sourced and karma-free, it’s also offered to Lord Govinda before it reaches your plate. We call our sanctified food ‘prasadam’. So as well as appealing to your taste-buds and being beneficial to your body, our cuisine is also nourishing for your soul.
Our menu caters to the size of your appetite. If you’re really hungry, try the appealing array of wholesome treats in our tantalising thalis. Choose from: The Govinda’s, The Unlimited, The Paneer or The Veggie.
Mini meals include old favourites like lasagne and burgers, who knows, you may come to prefer them in their karma-free guise!
Our snacks range from pizzas to pakoras. Our cakes and desserts need no introduction, they can speak for themselves.
One thing is assured, our meals are temptingly tailored to your varying tastes.
We Care
We work with Food For Life London, ISKCON-London’s food distribution programme, to serve hot vegetarian meals to the homeless. Our staff help prepare the meals which are distributed by the volunteers from Monday to Saturday at Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London.
Food For Life London is part of the Food For Life Global charity that combats hunger and crisis relief by serving two million free meals a day, internationally. Find out more at www.ffl.org.
